Bill Sauer's page

A short word from Barry C about Bill.
Bill Sauer has attended 15 Writers' camps, and for the past dozen years or more Bill has organised everything at the school end. Every year Bill throws himself whole-heartedly into the camp. He attends every session, he writes in every session. He produces poems, stories, memoirs - and songs. Bill also comperes the annual concert. It's no wonder the concert is such a highlight!
Bill is a great teacher, a great compere, a terrific writer, and one of the most kindly and humane men I've ever been privileged to know. Irymple Secondary College is fortunate to have such a great staff member; and the kids at Irymple should be grateful to have such a great teacher.

From me, Bill, and the others who have worked with you over the years - Lena, Sarah, Blaise, Myron, and of course Harvey Carter - thanks.

DO IT LIKE A WRITER (to the tune of The Locomotion)

Everybody’s coming to Cullulleraine now
Come on baby, do it like a writer
Writing up a storm like a hurricane now
Come on baby, do it like a writer
There’s never been a camp that is so much fun
So write your little butt off til the job is done
And come on, come on, do it like a writer with me

You’ve gotta pick your pen up, now come on baby
Write poems, write rap or just write a heap of crap woh-woh

Now you’ve got a draft you can give it some tweakin’
Come on baby do it like a writer
Bazza wears his undies inside out and I’m freakin’
Come on baby do it like a writer
Baz and Lena say that we can do it with ease
Blaise and Sarah shake it like the leaves on the trees
So come on come on, do it like a writer with me

Come on baby, do it like a writer
Come on baby, do it like a writer

Bill's RAP
DERIVATIVE

I been thinking about the nature of pain
Does it come from the heart? Does it come from the brain?
Does it flourish in the day or is pain nocturnal,
Out in the light or deep internal?
Like a hidden river running underground
Like a buckle in a wheel spinning round and round
Making me a cripple so I feel pathetic
What I’m gonna do for an anaesthetic?
Every time I think that the sun’s coming out
I get blinded by the glare then the clouds of doubt
Roll in like a train on a one-way track
End of the line and I can’t get back

All I really need is a reason to make a new connection
All I really want is something to give me some direction

So I’m sitting in the gutter and the rain is falling
I keep listening but no-one’s calling
I got a predilection for rejection
To mine eye I need to take a new infection
I wanna rise but my soul is grounded
Seems my spirit has been impounded
Moses waved his arms and the Red Sea parted
I need some help because I can’t get started

Chorus (Repeat part B)
